Update for June 2009

Our annual SUMMER SUNDAY SPORTS DAY will take place on Sunday 14th June at the village hall from 2pm onwards. There will be many exciting stalls and games taking place after the children have run their races and been awarded with their medals and certificates. All very welcome. The children starting school in September have been visiting the school on a regular basis and are enjoying the experience.

Our recent focus on 'When I grow up' has proved very popular and as well as our visits and visitors we have been exploring many different occupations. We have been bakers, chefs, nurses, doctors, vets, plumbers and shop keepers as well as practicing for our Sports day. Quite a busy time!

To finish off the term we will be focusing on colours, shapes and numbers and will let you know how we get on! Spaces available within the pre-school and pre-threes for September and as usual our Toddler group continues every Monday from 1pm. For further information please give us a call or pop in to the village hall.

Update for July 2009

This term's focus on colours, shapes and numbers has got the children using their creative skills and experimenting with colours from mixing paint with their fingers to blowing it through a straw!

They have been making pictures using lots of shapes and looking out for shapes within the environment. This was particularly exciting as we walked over to Barrington Court, looking out for different shapes and colours and counting as we walked along and were greeted by a herd of calves to count at the field gate.

Our Summer Sunday Sports Day was a great success, very well attended on a beautifully sunny afternoon. Thank you to all who contributed or helped in any way - well done - it was a really lovely day for the Pre-School and the community.

We have to say GOOD BYE and GOOD LUCK to our children going off to School in September we wish them all the very best and thank the parents who have supported us so well over the past few years we will miss you and your children.

We look forward to the next school year and all the new exciting things on the calendar. Don't forget our baby and toddler group on Monday afternoons during term time. All very welcome.

Please contact us on the above number for further information.

September / October Update

The new term has started well and all the children have settled in and are pleased to be back after the summer break. Our holiday theme has included making paper boats and windmills, exploring our beach corner and experimenting with things that float and sink.

We are looking forward to a visit from some donkeys from the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth and hopefully the children will be able to have a ride around the garden. The end of this month we will be investigating the festival of Diwali and the children will be painting their own lanterns.

Our new committee are now in place for the coming year after the resignation of last years parents as their children have now moved on to school. Thank you to these parents for their commitment to the group over the years and for all you have done for the Pre-School.

We are having another fund raising clothing collection. Any unwanted clothes, bedlinen, belts, bags, shoes, curtains, coats etc can be dropped off in a black bin bag either at the village hall Mon-Fri from 0900-1245 or, more conveniently, at 'The Jays', Lambrook Rd in the porch by October 20th. NO BRIC-A-BRAC THANKS.

All donations are greatly appreciated to help purchase vital resources for the pre-school. Thank you.

June 2010 Update

The children and staff really enjoyed the Dance workshops that we took part in recently, pretending to grow like seeds, move like the waves, rolling over rafts and generally exploring using movement, music and imagination.

Our next adverture will be our Pirate Day which will include a visit from the Playbus decked out as a Pirate ship. All staff and children will be dressing up for the day of fun and adventure.

Our themes this half term have been 'Our favourite Books' which so far have included The Owl Babies and The Tiger that came to tea. Our activities have included Owl puppets and pictures practising our 'cutting out' skills and cooking skills came into play with pizzas for the tiger's tea! Following on from these was Thomas the Tank Engine and friends which proved popular and helped the younger children to recognise their colours and numbers painted on the individual engines.

Summer Sports Day Sunday 13th June. All Welcome. Lots of exciting stalls and fun and games. Watch out for posters. Places available from September for children from the age of 2. Please do not hesitate to contact us on the above number for any further details.

July 2010 Update

The last half term of the year is well under way. The Pirate Day was a great success, all staff and children dressed up in pirate costumes and all got involved in the activities on the Pirate Bus. The children were able to make Pirate Treasure Chests, mini pirates, necklaces and Pirate Hats. We all took part in other adventures back in the village hall including walking the plank, which was definitely a favourite.

Our recent theme has been the story of the Gruffalo and all the creatures the mouse meets on his adventures in the woods. The children have enjoyed making snakes and mice and having pretend adventures in the woods. Summer Sports Day was great fun, the children ran their races really well and enjoyed obstacle races and putting balls into pots.

There was lots of fun and games after the sports on a beautiful June afternoon and profits from the day will go to purchasing new toys and equipment for the pre-school. Thanks to all who helped in anyway to make the day such a success. Over £450 was raised during this event. Well done one and all!

Good luck to all the children leaving us to go to school in September and we will see the others back ready to go again in September too. Places available for September in the -3's group and the Pre-school. Please contact us on the above number for further details.
