Minutes of a meeting of the Parish Council, which took place on Monday 28 July 2008. PRESENT Cllrs Humphreys (Chair), Cripps, England, Hallett, Sarker, Walshe, Messrs K Ronaldson & P Robathan (District Councillors).

APOLOGIES Cllrs Hawkins, Rowswell, Wakely, Mr J Sharpe (County Councillor). MINUTES The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and signed.

DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST
No interests were declared.
DC REPORT
Mr Ronaldson spoke of pavement sweeping and weed spraying work to be carried out in the village and the painting of school signs on the road.

Mr Robathan advised of a free bus from South Petherton to the Aquacentre , Crewkerne, on Fridays. He spoke of the success of the Waste Partnership and also of the trials for collection of plastic and cardboard, which have taken place in Sedgemoor, Mendip and Taunton Deane.

CC REPORT
Mr Sharpe had sent a reminder about the budget he holds for projects in the community, with youth provision in mind. He also sent a message about a 40A bus to Minehead on Mondays during the school holidays.

Cllr Humphreys had met Laura Knapp from the Somerset Rural Youth Project and he has application forms to apply for grants.

PLANNING
No objections were raised to a planning application for internal alterations and erection of single storey rear extension and front entrance porch to The Jays, Lambrook Road.

PARISH PLAN
The Parish Councillors were delighted to hear that the village Neighbourhood Watch Scheme had received a Rural Award at the Avon and Somerset Neighbourhood Watch Awards Ceremony on 17 June and expressed their congratulations and gratitude to the local co-ordinators for all their work.

The Parochial Church Council held a very successful fete and the Parish Plan Events Team arranged an enjoyable Caribbean Evening, despite the weather. The Whacky Olympics was a great success, raising approximately £1,500, and gratitude was expressed to the sponsors.

Work is being carried out to the pavilion and the shower rooms should be finished by the end of August.

The next event will be the Fun Run on 14 September. Cllr Humphreys spoke of delays with the installation of shower facilities at the School and he will write to the appropriate persons expressing the Parish Council’s concern.

HIGHWAYS
Mr Ronaldson was asked to report various potholes in the roads. FOOTPATHS Cllr Cripps said a working party will be meeting on 20 August to smooth out the footpath which has been cleared on the south side of the Recreation Field.
