Contd……

Am not the world’s best photographer, but even with my amateur shots, you can see it is looking much fresher and brighter….a new school year, a new start to school for the very little ones and an exciting year ahead for all of us.

Tim has settled well into the school and the early years’ class and the children absolutely love him.

Forest school has now begun on a Tuesday afternoon - the children have been donning their waterproof suits and have been out in the school garden, building firepits, generally tidying up and harvesting their vegetables. The whole exercise is about team-building and improving skills outside of the classroom environment. This week, they will be learning how to build a den and leaf identification. Afterwards, they will have their reflection time where they will discuss what they have learned and achieved, whilst sipping hot chocolate and eating marshmallows.

I really can’t write this newsletter without praising FOSS, which continues its fantastic work in fundraising and enabling the school to purchase those special “extras” for the children. Am sure you have probably heard it before, but your support of FOSS really is invaluable. We all have very busy lives and am sure you may think joining FOSS is a somewhat “daunting” prospect – but it really isn’t. It doesn’t have to be hugely time-consuming, people can help in all sort of ways and the more helpers FOSS has, the less time things take anyway! You might find it a bit of a laugh, as well as being a good way of getting to know people. Why not go along to the next meeting and just see what it is all about? The FOSS AGM will take place in school on Monday 27th September at 9am

For those of you who don’t already know me, I live in Shepton and, as well as being a governor, I have been part of the Shepton Parish Plan events team for the past 6/7 years and our aim is to create a real sense of community in Shepton. FOSS works very closely with us at the majority of the village events and provides refreshments, in order to raise money for school. At the recent 10K and Fun Run, they raised £127.70, despite the rainy weather and lower turnout than expected, which is great!

The other ways we raise money for school is by collecting old printer ink cartridges for re-cycling. If you have any, please think of the school and bring them in or leave them with Jo and Blue!

Perhaps you have some spare books at home that your children no longer need, which we can add to our library and quiet area?

We are also currently collecting Morrisons garden vouchers and will be doing the usual Tesco’s “Computers for Schools” ones, so please can we enlist your support and ask you and your friends and neighbours to collect these for us and hand them in at school.

The governors are currently in the process of setting up our meetings for the year ahead and we will find out what plans Karen and the staff have for the current school year. Once we know this, we would like to set up some social evenings, where we can all have informal chats about how we can make our school an even better place to be.

Your comments and suggestions in this regard are invaluable to us and we would like to start as we mean to go on! We will be setting up a “suggestions box” in school just outside the office, where you can post any ideas or concerns you might have, in complete anonymity if you wish. Alternatively, you can chat to the staff, email the office or contact me directly (sharon@LMSint.co.uk). We welcome all your input.

In the meantime, make the most of the light evenings, whilst we still have them and I will be in touch again soon.
