Shepton Pre-School News

February Update

Our new term started slowly as after two days back we were forced to close for a few days due to the severe weather conditions. The children were glad to get back into the swing of things once the snow melted as I am sure their parents were!

Our first wellie walk of the year was a non starter as this fell on one of the days we were closed, but the walk on 20th January proved very popular and tied in well with our focus for this term which is Our Bodies, how we keep fit and eat healthily. We will be measuring height and weight, doing plently of physical exercise and trying many new foods. We will be hoping for a visit from a local doctor to check us over!

Don't forget our WINE AND WISDOM EVENING on MARCH 6th, watch out for the posters for further information. If you need to know any more about our Pre-School or Toddler Group please do not hesitate to give us a call.

February 2017 News

We are having such fun this term and appear to be heading towards Easter at an alarming rate! Our new two year olds have settled into pre school life very happily and are enjoying their time with us.

After a busy time fundraising last term we have been able to spend some of our money and have bought some much needed replacement farm toys and fire engines and new games for the computer. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported our events we do appreciate it and the children are so excited by the new toys.

We have a few fundraising events planned for this term including a Pancake afternoon on Monday 27th February in the village hall. We also have another Charity Clothing Collection at the end of March but if you have any bags of unwanted clothes please drop off at the village hall anytime. We are also planning a Coffee and Easter Craft morning in March.

Toddler Group - our next session will be Thursday 2nd February - babies, toddlers and pre school children and parents/carers very welcome at anytime during the morning for crafts, play and singing.

January 2009

The new term has started well and all seem to be very excited and happy to be back to normal after the Christmas and New Year break.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our first wellie walk across the fields on a very cold, crisp morning. All dressed up in hats, scarves, gloves and wellies of course, the children found some very icy puddles and holding on tight to an adult were able to walk across without too many slips! We took lots of great photos and enjoyed our hot chocolate and toast on our return to the hall.

So far this term we have been measuring and weighing, including ourselves and looking at things that are heavy and light. The children have also been thinking about their senses and using them to explore the environment and tasting lots of different things to tickle their taste buds!

This month they will be investigating how the Chinese celebrate their New Year and you never know we may have visit from our very own Chinese Dragon.

Thank you to all who supported our Bags2school scheme again last term, we made a grand total of £150 from the clothes and bags we sent off to the company, well done.

Finally, welcome to our new little ones who have started this term, they are settling in very well. For further information about the group please contact us on 07765437301 or pop in to the village hall for a chat.

December 2008

Happy New Year to you all from everyone at Playgroup. We start the new term on Monday 5th January and hope everyone enjoyed Christmas and the New Year celebrations.

Our recent Crafty Christmas morning was a great success, enjoyed by all who attended whether munching on the very tasty bacon butties, sticking and painting or decorating biscuits. We made a profit of over £300 for Playgroup funds. Thank you to everyone who supported the event in any way.

The Christmas Play and Party finished the term on a very cheerful note and we will be now focusing on the term ahead. Continuing last term's theme of All About Us the children will be investigating sizing and weighing, including themselves, going on to their senses and what goes on inside them! Should be interesting.

The Red Cross are doing a Save A Life Course for our parents on Wednesday 21st January at 7.30pm, it is only for two hours and the course is free. We have a few spaces remaining if anyone is interested please contact us on the above number.

News March 2008

Our recent wellie walk over to Barrington Court was a very windy one, but a lovely morning all the same. We took our mid-morning snack with us and sat in the sunshine in the beautiful surroundings. The staff at the Court took us on their Easter Trail around the south lawn and we all had great fun looking for clues and answering the questions.

Next we all went into the house and the children tried out their painting skills on Easter Egg pictures which they all enjoyed. Leading up to the Easter weekend we had an Easter Bonnet parade in the village hall and made Easter nests and pictures to decorate the Church.

As Easter is early this year, our Easter break is not until after Easter when we are continuing our themes of Fairy Tales and looking at the story of the Ugly Duckling.

Forth coming fund raising events for the group will be a Bag 2 school collection of unwanted clothes - bags available from playgroup if anyone would like to join in after your spring sort out. All you have to do is fill a bag with clothes and drop it into playgroup. Collection to be completed by 23/24th April.
