Shepton Pre-School News

October 2010 Update

Our new term is well underway now and what a busy September we have had. Our new children have all settled into their new routine and enjoy spending time with their new friends. We have had an exciting visit from the donkeys from the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth. The reception class from Shepton School joined us and the chidren were able to touch and groom the donkeys and all sat on to have their photo taken!

As the Sanctuary do not charge to visit, the pre-school and school parents contributed to the event by making donations and we have been able to adopt a donkey at the sanctuary between us. We look forward to receiving news from Sidmouth about our adoption!

We continue to have our weekly visit from Fr. Geoff Wade armed with a story book, which the children always enjoy and the older children have had their first visit to the mobile library bus. Fund raising has already started with our Bags2School collection and if anyone has any unwanted items of clothing, shoes, bags, bedding or curtains please drop them off at the village hall by 6th October. We will be running a holiday club during the October half term break on Monday,Tuesday and Wendesday from 9am - 3pm. Children from Pre-school age up to the age of 8 will be welcome and this club will be run by the Pre-school staff. Contact us for more details. Advance Notice our popular Crafty Christmas morning will be happening again this year on 27th November, watch out for posters.

Please note our new TODDLER GROUP time and day, now Thursday morning at 9.15am and we are now open for All Day Sessions on Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday every week.

March 2009

The first half term of the new year flew by and we are now looking forward to preparing for Easter and the Spring term! We have had a busy half term continuing with our popular wellie walks and visits to the library bus. Our Chinese Dragon did appear to help us celebrate Chinese New Year and it took a walk to the village school which allowed those who wanted, to become the dragons legs and take it around the playground, they enjoyed this very much!

The snow introduced a different slant on our curriculum at the beginning of February and when able we made the most of taking the inside out as the children had not experienced snow before.

We are holding another WINE AND WISDOM EVENING on Saturday March 14th, the last one was a great success so if you enjoy a good quiz with good food and a “little to drink”, this is the place to be. The doors of the village hall open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start, £5 per person (teams of 4), Cornish Pastie and home made pudding included in the ticket price. To reserve a table call 07914851828 or 241673.

As mentioned before in our write up we are having another Bags2School collection to be in by April 1st. The bags will be available in the village shop or at the Playgroup or simply fill a black bag with any unwanted clothes, bedding or bags and leave it in the porch of The Jays, Lambrook Road or at the village hall during playgroup hours.

Parents with very young babies/children don't forget our Toddler Group on Monday afternoons, come along for a chat with others who are all in the same boat and you will be able to share your worries and experiences! for further information contact the Playgroup on 07765437301.

News June 2008

We are coming to the end of another very busy year and would like to wish all the children going off to school in September the best of luck. They are all ready for the next stage in their educational journey and we are sure they will all enjoy going to “Big School”.

Our recent Summer Funday was a great success raising over £750 for playgroup funds. It was a fantastic summer afternoon and great to see so many people there. The children enjoyed their Sports and certainly did us proud. Thank you to all who supported the event in any way, making this such a success.

Our older children enjoyed their recent walk over the hill to Barrington Court and were shown around the kitchen garden and sampled some of the very tasty fruits and vegetables. They all took something home with them although not sure if it got home in one piece!

We continue to have our visitors from the community and this month we were lucky to have one of the local “Belly Dancers” in to dance for us, we all joined in with a few of the moves and enjoyed it very much.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears finishes off our themes for the year and the leavers will be taking part in a Teddy Bear's Picnic to end the term. We are looking forward to welcoming our younger children back in September for the new school year and we will be joined by our new intake of -3's. We learn so much through play and have such fun.

May 2010 Update

Our Spring term finished with our Easter theme and a visit to the church. The children made cards and pictures to decorate the church and many took part in our Easter Creations competition. There was a beautiful array of hats, cards, spring flowers, Easter displays and even a Easter T-Shirt! Easter eggs were presented by Fr. Geoff, to all those who took part.

The new term started off with two dance workshops by the 'Little Big Bang' project, and a visit to the Smokery at Hambridge which was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Jesse and his staff for putting up with us! During May the older children will be paying regular visits to their schools in preparation for September which is always very exciting for them, making new friends and getting used to the new surroundings and the members of staff. Thank you to those who contributed to our Bags2School collection, we will let you know how we got on.

Our Summer Sunday Sports and Fete will take place on 13th June so lots of practicing will be on the agenda in the next few weeks. A big welcome to our new children who have just started our -3s group and hope those who have moved up to Pre-School are having fun in the longer sessions. Please do not hesitate to contact us on the above number for any further details.
