Pre-School - Wine and Wisdom Evening - Success

The Winning TeamPresentation of Brushes The Village Hall was packed for the Wine and Wisdom evening organised by the Pre - School parents to raising funds and as a social event. Hot Cornish Pasties and a plethora of delicious home made desserts helped to mop up the alcohol which was available “at the wave of a paddle”.

There was a very closely fought finish, some might say assisted or perhaps inhibited by the wine. Small prizes were awarded for First Second and Third in addition to the special “Daft as a Brush” award equally closely fought by the loosing teams. In total te event raised over £300 - A Big Thank you to everyone. Couple more photos and full results

What a Wonderful Wacky Weekend

And to complete the W's the winning team's captain was Ed Wakely. In spite of the PA continually playing a song about rain the sun shone the whole afternoon. Ten teams competed is our Wacky Olympics comprising some physical games and some mental games. Rob Sanders and his worthy team of helpers put together a very well organised event which was appreciated by competitors, spectators and the village in general. As a visitor to Shepton recently remarked “there is something very special about the way in which Shepton comes together to support village events”.

All profits from the day and from the sale of DVDs and Photos go to Lethbridge Memorial Playing Field and are earmarked for work on the children's play area at the recreation field. The organisers would like to record their thanks to Viridor Waste Management and all the local businesses for their support. Watch out for details on the DVD and photos in the Post Office.

Wet night for the Bonfire Celebrations

Despite a wet and windy night there was a good turnout for the Bonfire and Fireworks. Eventually the weather got the upper hand after several attempts to get the fireworks going, nevertheless everyone again had a good time. Our thanks to Mr Dennis for his kind permission to allow us to again use his field.

Weather doesn't dampen our celebrations

Inspite of the weather the combined Church Fete and St Petroc Caribbean “Picnic” celebrations were an enormous success. Two gazebos were blown over then hastily repaired. Possibly St Petroc may be the Patron Saint of Rain?. Displays of various arts and crafts works were on show in the church, ranging from knitting and furniture, to bee keeping and silverware. New events this year included a Dog Show and Ballon Race. A Few Fete Photos and Video of the Caribbean Picnic

Due to the weather the evening picnic was re-arranged in the Village Hall, Steel Band music, limbo dancing and “the worst” fancy shirt competition. Another excellent community weekend following on from our successful Wacky Olympics last week.

After thought - Someone on the organising Parish Plan committee has suggested next year the theme should possibly be a “Singing in the Rain” party, as in Shepton we seem to be able to enjoy ourselves when its pouring down - those high pavements must be there for a reason!!.
