 +====== All About FOSS ======
 +===== Who are FOSS? =====

 +
 +All parents, teachers, governors and helpers are Friends of Shepton School. They are represented by a small committee of parents who have volunteered their help.
 +
 +===== What does the committee do? =====
 +
 +
 +The committee has two main functions;
 +
 +    * First, we raise funds for the benefit of the children. This is done through regular term events, and special fundraising events.
 +    * Second, the committee provides practical and organisational support at the various school functions, which come around as the school year progresses.
 +
 +
 +===== Can I to get involved? =====
 +
 +New committee members are always welcome. We meet at the beginning of each term to discuss and plan forthcoming events and occasionally we meet again later in the term to finalise details.
 +
 +Becoming involved with FOSS is an ideal way of contributing to the quality of your child’s early school years.
 +
 +
 +
 +===== How do you raise funds? =====
 +
 +
 +As well as regular termly fundrasers such as Cake Day and the School Lottery (See FOSS fundraising), FOSS also held various fundraisers last year. I think you’ll agree there was something for everyone:
 +
 +    * November – Late night shopping event
 +    * December – Parents social
 +    * February – Fashion show
 +    * March – Easter Family Bingo & Chocoholics
 +    * May – Skittles night
 +    * July – End Of Term School Disco
 +
 +All of these events helped us to raise a staggering £2,679.23 towards the new wooden play area on the grass by the side of the school. So a HUGE thank you must go out to all the parents who give up their time to help raise money for our school.
 +
 +As you can see we had a very busy, fun and successful year!
 +
 +We hope this has helped you to understand a bit more about FOSS, and that you will lend us your enthusiastic support this year whatever contribution you are able to make.
 +
 +Please take time to find out more about this year's FOSS fundraising and find out about the exciting FOSS Diary for this school year!
 +
 +Many thanks for your continued support

 +===== FOSS Fundraising =====
 +
 +==== 2006/7 fundraising ====
 +
 +
 +FOSS raises funds for all aspects of the school, including school trips and general educational resources, throught the school year.
 +
 +For the 2006/7 school year (and beyond), our main fundraising target is for:
 +BUILDING THE NEW MEZZANINE FLOOR!
 +
 +The BIG objective for the school over the next few years is to increase the floor area in the school by building a new floor! As you can imagine, this will need a lot of money and FOSS will be playing a key role.
 +
 +The total amount needed is around £80,000 and some of this will be available in grants, some will be sought through sponsorship and the rest will be raised through FOSS events.
 +
 +We need all the support we can get for this exciting project that will have a major impact on the school! Please help in any way you can.
 +
 +==== Fundraising events ====
 +
 +
 +We are holding a meeting at the school on the 17th January and everyone is welcome to attend. We need volunteers and brilliant fundraising ideas, so we can start working on the events for this year. Please come along - we need you!
 +
 +==== Regular Termly Fund Raisers ====
 +
 +=== CAKE DAYS ===
 +
 +
 +Cake days take place 2 or 3 times per term, usually on the last Friday of the month (see FOSS Diary). The children bake cakes in school and are then able to buy what they have made. Parents/Guardians need to remember to make sure each child has 20p on cake days.
 +
 +FOSS also runs a cake stall at 3pm on the same day. We ask for contributions of home made cakes, biscuits, scones etc which can be either taken into school in the morning and left in the kitchen or brought in at 3pm when we hope you will also buy some goodies to take home with you.
 +
 +Thank you in anticipation of your support!
 +
 +=== SCHOOL LOTTERY ===
 +
 +
 +This has proved to be a very successful fundraiser. The lottery is run on a termly basis, with the draw usually taking place at an end of term event. Half the proceeds taken will be repaid as PRIZE MONEY, with an average of 10 prizes each term.
 +
 +You may buy as many tickets (numbers) as you like, at £2.00 per ticket, per term. Any friends or family members wishing to support the School are also welcome to buy numbers.
 +
 +You will be given the opportunity to buy tickets for the Lottery every September.
